Crans-sur-Sierre
Crans Montana, Switzerland

Home of the Omega European Masters, this marvelous golf club set in the middle of the mountain ranges in Crans Montana, Switzerland is a must-visit-and-play for all serious golfers. Past Masters Champions include Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Miguel Jimenez, and latest European rising star Ludwig Aberg.

I was very fortunate to have a perfect early June morning with sunny skies, cool temperatures, perfectly manicured green framed by snow capped Swiss Alps peaks in almost all directions.

As the course is set high in the alps, the golf season is relatively short. Check with the club for tee times.

Trip Tips

  • Plenty of hotels and airbnb accommodation in the area, but be prepared for a series of switch backs driving up to the this high elevation course.

  • There is a lovely restaurant / bar next to the 18th green. Weather permitting, grab a table on the outside terrace to watch golfers hit their approach onto the green.

  • The clubhouse is in a high end shopping / spa district - something to keep the Mrs. happy while you indulge in this bucket list golf course?

Golf Tips

  • The signature short Par 4 dog leg right 7th hole (pictured) was also my favourite. You have a magnificent view from the tee across a wide depressed fairway, up to the elevated green and with majestic white caps in the background. Tip: do not be concerned about driving it to the right hand collecting area, it's a very short a very short pitch up to the green from there.

  • On the 18th, all drives onto the centre of the fairway will slope severely to the right and may end up against the fence. So, favour the left half of the fairway. The picturesque narrow creek bordering the front and left of the green should not come into play unless you get really unlucky.
