Rio Grande Trail
Aspen, CO
Coming to Aspen for an early Spring ski week also presented opportunities for walking in the beautiful trails around Aspen in a magical Winter Wonderland setting.
The Rio Grande Trail (West) in Aspen was at its Winter best and was irresistable for a wintry morning walk. This 13-km out-and-back trail is basically flat and an easy walk.
This great trail that runs alongside the Roaring Fork River offered a surreal but very tranquil walk along snow cover trees and meadows. I am sure in the warmer months this trail would be busy with runners, bikers and family, but on this cold morning, I met only a few people walking their dogs, so I practically had the lovely trail to myself.
Strongly recommended whether you are there any time of year.

John Denver Sanctuary
Aspen, CO
From a young age, the late John Denver was one of my favourite country singers. Some of his greatest country hits transcend time and ages.
A visit to the John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen was therefore a must!
Situated on the Rio Grande Trail next to the Running Fork River, and shrouded in fresh snow fall, the Sanctuary was a fitting cradle of peace and quiet to honour the great country music star.
Engraved into huge upright boulders were the lyrics of some of John Denver's greatest hits including The Eagle and the Hawk; Autograph; Perhaps Love; and Rocky Mountain High.
